Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has described the burning of part of the Ikwerre Local Government Council as an act of irresponsibility.

He said this when he paid a visit to the secretariat to assess the extent of damage done to the building set on fire by arsonists earlier today.

A mammoth crowd of residents gathered at the secretariat to welcome the governor. They chanted the solidarity song, “Dey your dey” which the governor has been variously seen chanting in defiance of his former godfather, Nyesom Wike.

It would be recalled that the newly constructed council secretariat at Isiokpo in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State was set on fire by suspected political thugs.

The arsonists seized the opportunity of withdrawal of policemen from the 23 Local Govt secretariats in the state by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to perpetrate the act.

The arsonists are believed to be loyalists of the former Chairman, Samuel Nwanosike, a key point-man of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The inferno burnt office equipment, and destroyed glasses, files, chairs and tables, among other things.
