Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has overtaken Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s second-richest individual.
As of Friday, Zuckerberg’s net worth has reached $206 billion, placing him behind only Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who holds the top spot with $256 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Bezos now ranks third with a net worth of $205 billion, following a $2.6 billion decline.
Zuckerberg’s wealth surge comes after Meta’s shares rose 23% this year, driven by better-than-expected second-quarter sales and the company’s investments in artificial intelligence, particularly in large language models powering AI chatbots.
Meta’s stock reached a record high of $582.77 on Thursday.
The company has also been investing heavily in data centres and computing technology, positioning itself as a leader in the AI industry.
In addition, Meta continues to advance long-term projects like its Orion augmented reality glasses, introduced last month.
Zuckerberg, who owns a 13% stake in Meta, has seen his fortune grow by $78 billion in 2024, the largest increase among the world’s top 500 billionaires.
