A senior officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), has claimed he has yet to receive an official suspension letter despite news circulating about his suspension over bribery allegations tied to crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

Appearing in uniform before a House of Representatives panel investigating bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the NCoS, Mr. Anugwa said he only learned of his suspension through social media reports.

He maintained that he is still carrying out his official duties, as no formal communication has been made to him.

Last week, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board suspended Mr. Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, DCC in charge of the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) at Kirikiri, Lagos, pending further investigation.

The Board’s statement, signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, explained that the suspension aims to allow an impartial investigation into the allegations, assuring the public that the outcome will be disclosed once concluded.

In addition to the suspension of Mr. Anugwa and Mr. Adekunle, another officer, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, was suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate outside the Custodial Centre in Ebonyi State.
