Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State, has clarified why crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, was transferred to a Maximum Security Custodial Centre.
According to Mr. Anugwa, Bobrisky was moved due to the discovery of certain female features, including breasts, which placed him at risk in the general prison population.
Mr. Anugwa explained that Bobrisky’s transfer was a safety measure, as there were concerns he could be vulnerable to abuse by other inmates.
He said the facility’s Admission Board held a meeting and decided to place Bobrisky under protective custody, in line with international best practices.
Bobrisky, according to Mr. Anugwa, refused to eat the regular prison food and applied for self-feeding, a request allowed under Nigerian law. He nominated two individuals, Abiola and Moji Okuneye, to bring him meals.
Mr. Anugwa, who was allegedly suspended in connection with the Bobrisky scandal, insisted his suspension was only on social media as he continued to carry out his duties without receiving any formal communication.
