A devastating mass shooting has claimed the lives of 17 people in the rural town of Lusikisiki, South Africa.

The victims, including 12 women, were killed in two separate homesteads on the same street in the Eastern Cape province on Friday, September 27, 2024.

The shootings occurred during a family gathering, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Police have launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrators behind the attack, though no arrests have been made yet.

Authorities believe the violence is part of a growing trend of mass shootings in the region.

South African national police are investigating the motive for the attack and are working with local authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” said a police spokesperson, emphasizing that efforts are being made to restore safety in the area.

This shooting is one of the deadliest in recent South African history and has sparked national outrage over the escalating violence.
