Hezbollah has confirmed the death of its leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, following an Israeli airstrike.

The militant group, based in Lebanon, announced that Nasrallah, aged 64, was killed in a targeted strike conducted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Beirut on September 28, 2024.

Nasrallah had led Hezbollah since 1992, after the assassination of his predecessor, and was a central figure in the organization’s military and political operations.

The IDF claimed responsibility for the airstrike, stating that it had been part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure amid rising tensions between Israel and the Lebanon-based group.

The Israeli government has vowed to continue its operations against Hezbollah, which it views as a significant threat to its national security.

Nasrallah’s death marks a significant moment in the decades-long conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has seen numerous flare-ups over the years.

His leadership shaped Hezbollah into a powerful political and military force, while also strengthening its ties with Iran.

The group’s future remains uncertain as it deals with the sudden loss of its long-time leader.

This event is expected to further escalate the already tense situation in the region, with both Israel and Hezbollah preparing for potential retaliation and further conflict.
