The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Federal Government plans to implement tolling on all major roads in the country once construction and renovation works are completed.

Key roads identified for tolling include the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Second Niger Bridge, the Abuja-Kano Road, and the Makurdi-9th Mile stretch.

Speaking at an inter-ministerial media briefing in Abuja, Umahi emphasized that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is nearing completion and will soon be tolled.

He further stated that the tolling of federal roads is expected to generate substantial revenue for the government.

Umahi, who previously served as governor of Ebonyi State, revealed that the private sector has been actively engaged in road projects.

Private companies are expected to provide funding, handle construction, and collaborate with the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Ministry of Works to manage the tolling process.

The Minister also highlighted the Keffi-Makurdi Road as a completed project where tolling will soon begin. To facilitate this, his ministry is working with the Ministry of Finance to ensure a seamless, paperless payment system for road users.
