The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that one person is dead and two others are missing after a devastating flood swept through Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred after hours of heavy rainfall inundated several parts of the city, leading to flash floods that destroyed properties and disrupted normal life.

According to NEMA officials, the deceased was caught in the fast-moving floodwaters, while two others remain unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate the missing individuals, but authorities have expressed concerns about their chances of survival.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant, as more rains are expected in the coming days.

The flood primarily affected low-lying areas in Ibadan, including Bodija and Iwo Road, which have been known to experience recurrent flooding during the rainy season.

Many homes and businesses were submerged, leaving residents stranded and prompting urgent calls for improved drainage systems in the city.

Local authorities and disaster management teams are working to assess the extent of the damage and provide relief to those affected by the flood. This event highlights the ongoing challenges of flood control in Ibadan, where poor infrastructure and inadequate urban planning contribute to the city’s vulnerability during heavy rains.
