British tech entrepreneur, Mike Lynch was lost at sea on Monday, August 19, with five other people, after a luxury superyacht sank off the Italian island of Sicily during a storm.
Angela Bacares, the wife of the renowned businessman, was among the 15 people rescued.
Lynch himself and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah Lynch, could not be found or rescued, according to Salvo Cocina, head of the Civil Protection Agency in Sicily, who spoke to AFP.
The ill-fated super yacht had onboard a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers.
It was reported that sudden fierce storm battered the area overnight. A waterspout struck where the 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged Bayesian had been moored.
Lynch, aged 59, is a celebrated technology sector entrepreneur and investor, dubbed the UK’s answer to America’s Bill Gates.
A dead body had been recovered, as police divers tried all day to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting at a depth of 50 meters (163 feet) off Porticello where it had been anchored, rescue authorities said.
