A Physiotherapy student of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Okoi Godwin Clement, has been suspended for alleged gross misconduct.

The student was suspended by the management of the institution as conveyed in a letter dated August 14, 2024, and signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel. O. Egbe.

The institution said Okoi’s suspension was necessitated by his alleged s3xual molestation of a fellow student during a departmental dinner night at Atekong Drive in Calabar.

The letter said Okoi’s action was a great concern because it was a complete negation of the current administration’s commitment to character moulding.

The institution said the behaviour was alien to the academic community and it contradicted the culture of the institution.

The letter said the Vice-Chancellor was deeply saddened by the incident, which he described as callous, uncivilized, indecent, and irresponsible.

The VC directed that Okoi be suspended from all academic activities in the University, effective from Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Okoi will remain in suspension while the matter is referred to the Police for investigation.

The student was advised to hand himself over to the Acting Chief Security Officer, who has been mandated to hand him over to the Police for further necessary action.
