Police institute probe as worker dies after jumping into melting pot

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a probe into the death of a 25-year-old man who died after he jumped into an iron melting pot of his company.

Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told the News Agency of Nigeria, that the safety officer of the company reported the case to the Sagamu Road Police Division on August 3, 2024,  about 6.00 p.m.

The company is located in Odogunyan, in Ikorodu, Lagos.

On the day of the incident, the deceased, a contract staff member attached to the AOD Section of the company allegedly ran to the iron melting pot, which was out of bounds to all the staff during operation about 3:15 pm.

Efforts by his colleagues to restrain him reportedly proved abortive as the staff jumped into the pot and his body was completely melted.

Hundeyin said police detectives visited the scene of the crime, while investigation had commenced.
