Ondo farmer murd3red days after herders compensated him for destroying his crops
A farmer, identified as Sunday Ayeni, 36, has been murd3red at Uba Oka Akoko in Ondo State a few days after herders compensated him for destroying his crops.
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, Ayeni’s lifeless body was found on his farm.
He had been cut severely with a machete in various parts of his body, including his stomach, with his intestines hanging out.
The lifeless body of his dog was found lying beside him.
Only a few days before this incident, Ayeni received some payment to compensate for the damage done to his crop by some cows in the area.
It was learnt that the deceased’s farm was destroyed by some cows last week, bringing him into confrontation with some herdsmen responsible for the cows.
Security agents and some elders in the community resolved the crisis between him and the herders.
They were subsequently forced to pay an undisclosed amount to the late farmer as compensation.
He left for his farm on Saturday and did not return, forcing neighhours to go in search of him and his dog, which followed him.
His lifeless body was found in a pool of blood with his dog and cutlass beside him.
Sources believed Ayeni was k!lled because the herders were dissatisfied with the settlement of the case and the amount of money they paid as compensation.
A community leader in the area, Mr. Pius Imoru, told newsmen that the entire community were scared of going to their farms.
He called on security operatives to look into the situation.
