Lane violation has cost the Nigerian men’s 4x400m relay team chance to vie for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The organisers have just made the announcement, stating that the infraction was committed during the semi-final race.
The quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Dubem Amene, Ezekiel Nathaniel and Chidi Okezie, initially qualified for the final by finishing second in their heat with a season’s best time of 2:59.81.
Further scrutiny of the race revealed that one of the runners stepped out of his lane and consequently tripped a South African runner.
Nigeria’s place in the final has now been given to South Africa.
