Embattled Miss South Africa contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, who recently became the subject of an investigation into her nationality, has withdrawn from the pageant.
She made the announcement on her Instagram page on Thursday.
She said she was pulling out from the competition for the “safety of my family and I”.
This is coming after an interest group, Patriotic Alliance, instituted urgent legal action against Adetshina and Miss South Africa to stop her from progressing with the competition.
It would also be revealed that the South African Home Affairs announced that it found evidence that Adetshina’s mother, who has Mozambican roots, might have committed fraud and ‘identity theft in obtaining South African citizenship.
The department disclosed that it might take a legal action after the conclusion of its investigations.
Adetshina faced severe opposition from South African citizens who believed that she was not entitled to take part in the Miss South Africa Pageant because of her Nigerian heritage.
Adetshina’s father is Nigerian while her mother is Mozambican.
The beauty queen, who is studying law, was born at Soweto’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
