Four people have allegedly been shot dead at a filling station in Maiduguri, Borno State during the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in the city.

The police in the state, however, claimed that an Improvised Explosive Device resulted in the d*ath of one male victim, with 11 others sustaining various degrees of injuries at the filling station.

A statement by the Police Commissioner, Yusuf Lawal, on Friday, August 2, 2024 said the incident occurred during the protest against bad governance at Deribe Junction near Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno Annex Bulumkutu area, Maiduguri.

He revealed that the injured were taken to the State Specialist Hospital in the city, while the corpse was submitted for an autopsy.

He said that the police swiftly deployed personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Device, Base 13, who probed the scene and rendered the area around a filling station safe.

His account was corroborated by some residents while some others debunked it.

With a graphic video from the scene, some residents said four staff of A. A Kime filling station, Bolori Junction in Maiduguri were shot d*ad by security operatives after some protesters ran towards the petrol station.

One Muhammad Adam, a lawyer, said the victims were not protesters but staff of the filling station.

Some officials of the filling station told the Daily Trust that their colleagues were sh0t.

However, one of the attendants who gave his name as Malam Musa, said the victims were k!lled by an explosion. He claimed he was also nearly affected, but God spared him.

However, another person, who pleaded for anonymity, said the deceased were hit by stray bullets.

He insisted there was no explosion, just sounds of gunshots. He said the next thing he saw were the men lying down.
