Police in Lagos have shed light on the failed explosive device dropped at Ikeja on Wednesday by a yet-to-be-identified man.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement explained that the explosive device was found after a policeman reported seeing a young man disembarking from an unregistered car and dropping a bag by the side of the Nigerian customs federal operations unit fence in Ikeja, Lagos.

On the basis of this information, a team of IED experts were dispatched to the scene and they confirmed the bag contained an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), Ben said.

He further explained that the area was then cordoned off, while an SOP was adopted before the device was taken to a safe distance for deactivation.

He further added that the residual of the device was collected for further analysis and investigation.

He advised Lagosians to go about their their lawful duties as efforts were ongoing to ensure safety.
