At least three people have died while many others were hospitalised in the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in Suleja, Niger State.
An X user, @Humeeerat raised an alarm on the platform by tweeting:
“This isn’t fake news! The Police shot 3 protesters in Suleja Niger state during the peaceful protest.”
The protest was reportedly peaceful until an altercation broke out between a group of protesters and a contingent of policemen who kept a watchful eye on the protest.
The crowd reportedl surged forward, threatening to overrun the policemen, who reportedly called for back up.
Hell was let loose when the police reinforcement arrived, as the protesters pelted them with missiles.
The police allegedly opened fire on the youths in the process.
A protester idenfied as Yahaya Nda Isah, of Hassan Dalatu Road, Suleja, was one of those hit by a stray bullet.
Isa was said to be sitting on his bike in front of the Suleja Police ‘A’ division where the protesters gathered at the time.
The deceased’s nephew told Daily Trust that his uncle was on his bike when the bullet f hit him on his chest, k!lling him instantly.
The source insisted his uncle was not protesting, but was just passing by at the time he was hit.
A second casuality was identified as Mallam Abu, who was also hit by a bullet that k!lled him on the spot.
Eye-witnesses insisted three other people were shot, but they had no information on their health status.
