Legendary singer fondly called the ‘Elegant Stallion”, Onyeka Onwenu, has passed away at the age of 72.
Onwenu, according to family sources, attended the 80th birthday party of Chief (Mrs) Stella Okoli in Lagos on Tuesday night, July 30 and performed her songs without an incident.
The lady of songs had returned to her seat when she reportedly slumped and was rushed to Reddington Hospital, Lagos where she was confirmed dead.
There is no information yet on the cause of her death.
The prolific singer who ruled the airwaves in the 90s to the early part of the millennium was born on May 31, 1952.
He singing career covered more than four decades. She was also at a time a journalist. She tried her hands on acting and also made a success of it, starring in some memorable films.
Her all-time best songs include “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” and “Ekwe.”
