An 30-year-old American man, who miraculously survived a 244-day coma has been run over by a pickup truck.
Drew Kohn was 22 approaching 23 in 2017 when he was involved in a serious motorcycle crash, which threw him into a deep coma after suffering a traumatic brain injury.
He was in that vegetative state for the next eight months, during which doctors wanted to harvest his organs but for his mother who insisted they should leave him alone.
At some point, the machines could not pick any activity in his brain. With the prognosis that he was brain-dead, the doctors counselled the mother who would not give up on her son to take him home.
Surprisingly, the faith of his mother was rewarded as he miraculously came round.
He reportedly just opened his eyes one day and said: “Yeah, Mom, I’m OK. I love you, Mom.”
Recalling the event, the mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn told WTLV-TV said: “They would have harvested his organs.”
“It was because of my faith that gave me the boldness to speak up and push back and let them know, ‘You’re not getting a toenail or an eyelash.'”
Kohn went through years of gruelling rehab and was dubbed a modern-day miracle when he started walking again.
Unfortunately, Kohn was struck by a speeding truck on Friday, July 26, 2024, while he was walking on Collins Road in Jacksonville around 5:30 a.m., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The driver said he did not see him. He pulled over right after the incident and called 911.
Kohn was pronounced de@d at the scene, WLTV-TV said.
Osborne-Kohn said she was grateful she had seven borrowed years with her son.
“God honoured my request, and I’m not mad. I’m not angry. I’m at peace,” she told the outlet. “I got seven years and like Hezekiah who turned his face to the wall, I remember sitting on Drew’s hospital bed and saying to myself, ‘Thy will be done.'”
She said she believes her son is now in heaven and no longer suffering.
“Drew is healed, walking, not struggling to keep his balance,” she said. “His arm is probably lifted so high saying ‘Thank you, Jesus!’ Drew probably has a football in one hand and a Bible in the other.”
