The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has tendered an apology to a fellow senator, Natasha Akpoti, over a ‘denigrating’ comment he made about her during one of the sessions.

Akpabio had chided Senator Natasha to speak properly and made reference to the fact that they were not in a ‘night club’.

Some young people found the comment sexist and accused the Senate President of denigrating the womenfolk as his comment seemed to suggest that the Senator was more suited for a nightclub than the hallowed chamber of the Senate.

A blogger seized upon this sentiment to demand an apology from the Senate President failing which his dirty secrets would be published.

The controversial blogger, Gistlover Media, proceeded to publish the numbers of the Senate President and some other women that the blog claimed to be side chicks of Akpabio.

The blogger threatened to do more reputation damage to the politician unless he apologised.

One of the women accused of sleeping with Akpabio, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, on Monday issued a visual statement to debunk the allegation that he had anything to do with the Senate President.

In a video she posted, she promised to pay anyone N5 million if they could produce a video or audio recording that could link her to Akpabio.

She also threatened to sue the blog for tarnishing her hard-earned reputation.

Today on the floor of the Senate, Akpabio announced that her wife’s phone had been bombarded with more than 300 calls from Nigerians over the comments he made concerning Natasha Akpoti.

He claimed that his own phone crashed when he attempted to put it on as it was bombarded by a barrage of calls and messages.

He said his comments were misconstrued, as he had no intention of denigrating his colleague.

He said his comment was in the context of urging the Senator to shout as if they were in a club where people had to shout over the general noise of music and club activities to get heard.

Akpabio said he had a wife and four daughters and could not have denigrated women as he was being accused of.

He then apologised to Akpoti and asked that she forgive him.
