IG halts enforcement of e-CMR

The Inspector General of the Federation, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the immediate suspension of the July 29 enforcement of the e-Central Motor Registry (e-CMR).

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the suspension aims to allow for public education on the e-CMR’s process, benefits and effectiveness.

Police officers have been instructed to stop requesting e-CMR certificates and any officer exploiting the public on this basis will be sanctioned.

Enforcement will be carried out by dedicated officers at a later date.

The e-CMR aims to address vehicle-related crimes and enhance vehicle ownership protection.
