Media personality, Bolanle Olukanni has taken to X to decry the weakness of the Nigerian passport after her father who is a retired ambassador who served in Austria for three years was denied a visa to the same country when he applied with a Nigerian passport.
She wrote:
“ I just want you guys to know that the Nigeria passport has really been bastardized. My father is a whole retired Ambassador who lived and served in Austria for 3 years. He applied for a schengen visa alongside my mum and the Austrian embassy denied their visas😂😂
Do you realize the lack of diplomacy and courtesy and disregard for a country you have to have to deny a former foreign service officer a visa. A Foreign service officer who served for 30 years and has been to over 30 countries 😂😭😭😭😂
They think he wants to japa to Austria 😭😭 I’m so insulted. Lord”
Her tweets have been generating lots of reactions, with many also telling their sob stories about the weakness of the Nigerian passport.
Some also accused Olukanni of pushing a negative agenda against the Nigerian passport.
To this group of people, Olukanni responded:
“At the end of the day this thing where people call out the truths and realities of a situation and people want to make agenda out of it – it’s so scary.”
Some wondered if her father did not use a diplomatic passport. She responded:
“Since he is retired he applied with his normal Nigerian passport but these people know he lived and served in Austria for 3 years . What’s their business.”
