Moment Isaiah Olugbemi was shot dead was recorded by his sister inside the house (Video)
Rebecca Olugbemi of Odenton, MD was recording herself doing her makeup video when the sound of gunfire erupted outside the home she shared with her brother, Isaiah and other family members.
At the time she had no idea it was her brother that was being mowed down by their neighbor.
About 14 shots can be heard in the background as Rebecca Olugbemi sat in front of a dressing table to do her make-up while filming herself.
Investigators say surveillance video shows 36-year-old Nicholas Giroux walk directly up to Olugbemi and shoot him multiple times as Olugbemi fell to the ground, according to charging documents.
The suspect reportedly then fled the scene.
He was said to have confronted the victim with a gun before the tragic event. The precise bone of contention, is however not known.
Family members speak fondly of Isaiah.
“He always looked out for everyone and made sure that everyone was good,” Rebecca said. “I just want them to know. And he was just a hard worker. Anything that he wanted, he went after it.
His brother, Abraham Olugbemi, said “He meant a lot to a lot of people. People from New York drove down here the same day because of what happened. It’s just so tragic, like, so random.”
Anne Arundel County police say they arrested Giroux Tuesday and charged him with first- and second-degree murder. They said Giroux confessed and led them to the 9 mm handgun he used in the homicide.
Anne Arundel County police said it’s investigating any prior interactions between the victim and suspect.
Giroux was ordered held without bond Thursday morning.
“I don’t know what justice would look like, honestly,” Rebecca Olugbemi said. “I don’t know if there’s anything that could be done that would make it any better.”
