A High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State has jailed a police Inspector, Ubi Ebri for murd£r.
The police inspector was accused of k!lling one Mr Ibeh Onyeka, a phone dealer, at a checkpoint in Asaba, on April 5, 2023.
He reportedly shot and k!lled the deceased for refusing to give him a bribe of N100.
The Prosecution led by E.H Edema, a Director in the Ministry of Justice, alleged that the defendant, was part of the Police Patrol team that mounted the stop and search exercise.
The deceased and his wife were said to be driving from Ugbolu to Asaba when they were flagged down by the police team for search.
The defendant opened fir£ on the vehicle hitting the deceased on the head.
The wife of the deceased who sat in the front seat with him was however, unhurt.
The Court, presided over by Justice C. D Diai convicted and sentenced the defendant to d£@th on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
