A 13-year-old boy, Wisdom Hassima, has taken his own life after he was falsely accused of stealing N10,000 by his neighbour.
Wisdom was allegedly picked up by the boyfriend of his 16-year-old neighbour after she could not find the N10,000 and she suspected Wisdom of sneaking into her apartment to steal it.
The boy was said to have denied stealing any money, but the soldier boyfriend of the neighbour took him and his brother nonetheless.
They were repoetedly taken to the JTF (Joint Task Force) base where Wisdom and his brother were allegedly beaten to force them to confess.
According to the deceased’s mother, he was so badly beaten he could not walk or sit.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated.
But the following day, the family were shocked to find out that their son had taken his own life.
Interestingly, the brother of the neighbour later confessed he took the money and was able to return N9000, claiming he gave N1000 to someone.
Police are now investigating the incident, with the family of the deceased calling for the arrest of the soldiers who arrested and torture the boy.
