Lagos publishes 48-hour notice to owners of properties obstructing drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo

COntravention notice

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has published a 48-hour contravention notice to owners of properties built on the Right-Of-Way of drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo.

He shared the notice on his X handle this morning May 14.

Recall that while the demolition in Mende took place two weeks ago, an affected resident alleged that they were given two hours notice to vacate the property for the demolition to take place.

The state government has also been accused of not giving notices to affected residents before the structures are pulled down.

In an apparent bid to correct such notion, the Commissioner posted the notice and wrote: “The Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources @LasgMOE has issued a 48-hour contravention notice to owners of properties built on Right-Of-Way of drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo.

This is in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017 and the renewed drive of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu  administration’s effort to ensure free flow of rainwater and prevent flooding across the State.”
