Leading marketing communications consultant, Venerable Anthony Ajero, has launched two thought-provoking books entitled, “They Are Killing Me” and “2023 Nigeria: End or Start.”
The Lagos launch drew a distinguished crowd from various walks of life eager to engage with Ajero’s insightful works and its rave reviews.
Ajero’s first book, titled “They Are Killing Me! The Black Preacher: His Protestation Prose and Poetry,” is a unique exploration of the author’s experiences as a citizen, professional, student, and religious leader.
Combining poetry, prose, anecdotes, and insightful commentary, the book delves into the challenges of being a Nigerian, African, and Blackman.
Ugo Nwachukwu, the book reviewer, and Senior Manager at Globacom Limited, described the book’s central theme as “the nexus of ‘killers,'” identified as societal ills, corrupt leadership, and history’s weight.
Nwachukwu commended the book for its unflinching portrayal of these struggles despite the resulting “frustration and suffocation” felt by those who fight for a better society.
“The Black Preacher” is a rich tapestry of 44 poems and narratives that explore a wide range of issues, including love, morality, politics, and poverty.
Ajero’s second book, “2023 Nigeria: End or Start?” is a novel that took almost 15 years to produce. Inspired by two declassified documents released by the United States of America (USA) government in 2005 which pertain to Nigeria’s past and future, the writer crafts a spell-binding story that runs from civil war Asaba to the USA, Lagos, and Abuja.
Lucky Onuwa, General Manager of Earl Glow Communications and book reviewer noted that the title itself reflects Ajero’s hope for a turning point in 2023.
Onuwa observed that while pockets of progress were achieved, the year ultimately fell short of the dramatic transformation many Nigerians yearned for.
Onuwa highlighted the book’s central focus on leadership, arguing that a lack of strong leadership has hampered Nigeria’s development for decades.
Chairman of the book launch Otunba Demola Odutola, CEO of Queensdrive Estates Limited, praised Ajero’s works as a form of “historical and archival renaissance” that explores Nigeria’s past, present, and potential future.
He expressed optimism about the country’s ability to overcome internal challenges, arguing that the interconnectedness of Nigerians across the nation will act as a unifying force.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Nollywood veteran Charles Okafor, commended Ajero for his contribution to Nigerian scholarship and history.
The event attracted prominent figures including Sir Wale and Lady Joyce Jafojo, Otunba Sore Osibodu (Chairman of Sodapex), and Barrister Chidi Ilogu (SAN), (Senior Partner at Foundation Chambers).
