The management of the University of Nigeria (UNN) has suspended Mfonobong David Udoudom, a General Studies lecturer who was recently disgraced after he allegedly tried to sleep with a married female student.

The lecturer works at the General Studies Programme (GSP) Unit of the university, where he teaches Peace and Conflict Resolution and Nigerian People’s Culture.

It would be recalled that a video of the lecturer in boxers, with a mammoth crowd questioning him went viral on Monday.

Udoudom, from Akwa Ibom, was allegedly trying to have sex with the married student in his office located at the GSP complex on Monday, April 22.

The lecturer reportedly demanded sex in exchange for grades from the woman.

The student informed her husband and with the help of the Dean of Students Affairs and school security, they set a trap for the lecturer and caught him red-handed.

Acting Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr Okwun Omeaku, in a statement on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, disclosed that the indefinite suspension is with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary panel constituted by the University to investigate the incident.

“The management of the University of Nigeria has suspended Mr (not a Professor) Mfonobong David Udoudom, a lecturer in our General Studies division, who was caught in a video allegedly harassing a female student,” the statement read.

“The indefinite suspension is with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary panel constituted by the University to investigate the incident.

“For the records, the University of Nigeria has a zero tolerance for sexual misconducts involving our staff and students

“UNN is among the few universities in the country that has a Sexual Harassment Policy, which guides the relationship between our staff and students in particular and among our male and female staff

“As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the University Management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel.”
