The police in Ondo State have arrested a suspect over his alleged involvement in the murder of a 25-year-old man, Temitope Olorunfemi, who was lynched in Akure after he was accused of being a ‘Yahoo boy.’

The incident happened on Monday, April 10, 2023, when Temitope was stoned to death when his alleged reckless driving caused an accident that left one person dead and six others injured.

Temitope’s car, a Toyota Camry (muscle), was also set ablaze by the irate mob in the presence of his wailing parents.

The father, Mojisola Olorunfemi, and his wife, Mosunmola Bosede, denied that their son was a fraudster.

The mother said her son was an Uber driver who came to visit them for the Easter festivity.

The police swung into action and arrested five suspects who were later arraigned for their involvement in the murder.

Ondo Police Command spokesperson, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, announced on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, that a man who claimed that he saw some fetish items inside Temitope’s car after the accident last year has now been arrested.

The man went viral on social media at the time and he was dubbed “Ijapa Meta’ man after he claimed he saw three tortoises (ijapa meta) and a small coffin inside the deceased’s car.

It is believed that the claims that the deceased had fetish items in his car infuriated the crowd who killed Temitope at the time.

Odunlami said: “On the 10th April 2023, (Easter Monday) a young man was involved in a fatal motor accident along Ijoka road, Akure. He was labelled ‘ a Yahoo boy’ and killed by an irate mob. The suspect who claimed to have seen “Ijapa Meta” and other fetish objects in his car has been arrested. Do not say what you can’t defend,” the statement read.
