One of the escorts attached to an Abuja-bound train lost his life in transit on Thursday morning, April 4. 2024.
A passenger, who witnessed the incident, told Daily Trust that the deceased looked hale and hearty in Kaduna when the trip commenced.
However, some way into the journey, he complained of pain in his chest and sought help before he died.
“A police officer, who was one of the escorts on an Abuja-Kaduna train just died. He left home in good health. But later during the journey, he complained of chest pain and asked his colleague to get him some glucose and water,” the source said.
“There was no emergency medical care on the train. Before a doctor, who was also a passenger, could come, the officer was already dead,” the passenger said.
After the officer died, his remains were moved to a side of the train, while his face was covered.
The train arrived at Kubwa in Abuja around 3:20 pm after which passengers disembarked.
The security operative there prevented passengers from recording the incident.
About 20 minutes after the arrival of the train, a police van drove into the station to pick up the corpse to be deposit at a mortuary.
One of the videos posted on Facebook showed passengers gathered in groups, discussing the incident.
