The government of Niger Republic reopened their border in Konni for operations today March 22, 2024.
This comes one week after the authorities of Nigeria Customs Service opened the Illela land border between Nigeria and Niger Republic on President Bola Tinubu’s orders.
The border was declared open at exactly noon on Friday.
Recall that recently, the Nigeria Customs Service in complying with the federal government directives, have reopened all land and air borders across northern states and the country, more recently the reopening of Konni-illela border in Sokoto State to facilitate lawful trade between the two countries.
Members of the Economic Community of West African States closed their borders with Niger after the July 26, 2023 coup. The sanctions placed on them were however lifted in February this year.
