A polytechnic student has taken to social media to seek justice after a policeman allegedly smashed her head with a stick during a routine stop and search in Niger State.
The student said she was going to Sokoto to get her NIN done when they encountered the police checkpoint at a location an X user identified as Dogon Lai area of Niger State.
The lady explained that the policeman came to her side of the car to interrupt the video she was watching on her smartphone.
She said the cop asked her if she was an indigene and she responded that she was a student of a polytechnic.
She claimed the cop was not satisfied and insisted on knowing if she was an indigene and she queried his interest in that when she did not do anything wrong.
It became an argument and the lady was asked to step down from the vehicle.
The cop reportedly asked for a student ID, which the lady did not have and also her NIN, which she also did not have.
At that point, the lady said the policeman declared that she was an ‘ashawo’ local parlance for prostitutes.
She objected to that and some other passengers intervened.
The matter was believed to be settled until the lady was about to board the vehicle again and the said policeman put his stick between her and the car.
She claimed she told the policeman to remove his stick so she could enter the car, and instead of complying, the man hit her on the head with the stick.
Her top was stained with blood and she can be seen crying profusely in the video of the incident currently circulating on social media.
The police authorities have been tagged to the video, but they are yet to respond.
