The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has alerted the general public to a new mode being adopted by one-chance robbers in Nigeria.
One-chance robbers drive vehicles disguised as public transport, but are occupied mainly by members of the robbery gang who pretend to be passengers.
They pick up unsuspecting members of the public and attack them for their valuables as soon as the vehicle gets in motion.
The police in their latest warning on their official Facebook page on Monday night said the criminal elements have adopted a new method call “Shifting Chair-One Chance.”
The force did not explain the method, leaving readers to speculate that probably the chairs meant for the victim will be unbolted from the body of the vehicle such that it could be removed or shifted to a side to allow the suspects to put the victim on the bare floor of the vehicle.
The police urged passengers to always be vigilant and watchful to avoid boarding vehicles that are not painted in commercial colours.
The post reads, “It has become vital to intimate members of the public about trending methods adopted by criminals to rob unsuspecting citizens of their possessions. One of such is known as ‘Shifting Chair- One Chance.’
“The Nigeria Police Force advises citizens and other residents in Nigeria to be very watchful and avoid vehicles not marked commercially or without proper identification.”
It is an organized crime perpetrated by armed robbers who specialize in snatching valuables, including cell phones and cash, from passengers.
