A man has reportedly died while queuing for a half bag of rice being sold for N10,000.
The man was said to be in the queue with his wife when he fell and was not able to stand up according to information relayed by the medical doctor who treated him after the incident.
The medical doctor, Dr. Adunola, said the man’s wife told her the man was unable to stand up immediately after he fell and some other potential rice buyers trampled upon him before he could be rescued.
He was then rushed to Dr. Adunola’s hospital and he never made it out alive.
Read Dr Adunola’s tweet below:
“A man just died in my hospital, he was stamped on after falling at the customs office trying to get rice. He was on the queue with his wife when he fell down and couldn’t get up on time which resulted to people stamping on him. So sad. Survived by very young children. Naija”
In a follow-up post, she said: “That’s what the wife said. She even said he couldn’t get up himself, and there was no one to help them even take him to the hospital. A pregnant woman was also pushed into the gutter.”
Someone responding to the tweets posted the account of another victim who said he was flogged by uniformed officers severely and he ultimately left the venue without buying anything after five hours.
