There is a call for the arrest of a policeman who allegedly led some hefty youths into the hostel of a group of teenage girls to brutalise them for bringing shame to the Igala tribe of Kogi State.

The four ladies had taken part in the popular TikTok challenge, “Of Course”, identifying themselves as Igala girls and declaring that they were into hook-ups.

The girls took turns to make the declaration in their native language which when loosely translated into English went thus: “I am an Igala girl. Of course, I’m into hookup”.

Many ladies of Igala extraction thought it was a blight on all women from Igala as the video suggested that all Igala girls are into hookups or prostitution.

The video went viral and became a problem for the ladies. One of them, realizing the dimension the issue was assuming, quickly went online to apologise on behalf of herself and her friends for the video, which she claimed was just done for fun.

However, a group of boys, allegedly led by a policeman locally known as Eskay Mayana, visited the girls in their hostel in Ankpa community and beat them black and blue.

The brutal assault occurred on Tuesday, February 20, days after the teenagers, said to be students of Kogi State University, posted the video on TikTok.

They filmed the entire torture of the girls and uploaded it.

While it appeased some people in the Akpa community where the girls resided, many others felt it was too much for the said offence the girls committed.

Human rights activists have now taken it up and are asking for a probe and arrest of the said policeman.
