An array of companies have stepped forward to sponsor various aspects of the wedding ceremony of a couple after a journalist mocked the man for proposing to his girlfriend at a ‘cheap’ quick service restaurant.

A man chose a quick service restaurant, KFC, to propose to his girlfriend who accepted it and netizens congratulated them online.

However, a journalist, with the moniker, Butterfly_Anele on X (Twitter) saw things differently. She took to her page to broke-shame the man for proposing to his girlfriend at a “cheap” eatery, KFC.

This did not go down well with many South Africans who thought such a condemnation would put men under undue pressure to do what was beyond their capacity.

Many netizens spoke against Butterfly Anele and asked her to leave the couple alone, while a minority supported her tweet.

But in a twist of fate, interesting offers started rolling in for the couple from some of South Africa’s well-known brands.

A company identified as Kulula fired the first salvo by offering to sponsor the couple on a free holiday treat for their honeymoon. The company will accommodate and feed the couple for five days and take care of their flight tickets.

A car rental business offered to move the couple around for the duration of their honeymoon, including driving them to the resort for their honeymoon.

A jewellery store offered to gift the couple two beautiful Rose Gold diamonds for their wedding worth R45000.

Coca-Cola offered to provide all the soft drinks for the wedding. Other companies like network providers, appliances, Puma and a consulting group offered to pay for their electricity bills for a whole year.
