Tech company CEO shares his conversation with an alleged entitled employee

A tech company Chief Executive Officer (CEO), known as KAA on Facebook, has shared his conversation with an alleged entitled employee.

In his post, he explained that he increased the employee’s salary by 100% due to the current economic hardships but the employee did not acknowledge the increment.

KAA then decided to go back to paying the employee his former salary and he quickly reached out to complain about the reduction.

He wrote:

“I have an employee whose monthly salary was N100,000. When the fuel pump price increased to N630 per liter, I quietly increased all my employee’s salaries and this particular guy’s salary was increased to N200,000.

He received this 200k for months without saying anything. Last month I decided to revert back to his old salary to know what he would do. Today he mustered the courage to send me the message below, feeling entitled to what’s not his own. Now his job hangs in the balance.”

When a lot of netizens criticized him for being too harsh on the employee for asking a simple question, he wrote:

“If you suddenly started receiving double your salary without any prior communication from your employer about the change, if you don’t let your employer know about the excess, you are a thie7. And if you now feel entitled to it, you are not someone any company should employ.

You should also note that the majority of my employees work remotely, so they don’t even know themselves.

This increment, as I already stated in the post was done quietly without any announcement or communication to anyone. There was no demand for it too.

Every wise employee would quickly let their employer know that they received more than their salary.

You don’t keep quiet about the increment only to find your voice when what was freely given to you is taken away.

Some of you making some s!lly comments should have sense and learn some decency.”

“This is a very bitter truth. I was teaching in a school last year where the proprietor decided to increase our salaries without prior notice.

When I received an alert with an increment of 10k, I quietly enquired from a colleague if there was any change in her salary. But because she had not received her alert then, I had to go and meet the proprietor himself to inform him there was a mistake in the salary sent to my account.

I was amazed when he smiled and said “there is no problem, it was not a mistake”. I even thought I was the only one and was thinking why I deserve such a gesture, until others began to confirm theirs.

I don’t think any honest person will do otherwise.”

Nana Ash Yusuf:  “Good for him, barawo. When my madam increased my salary years back,I called her and told her I saw so so amount increase on my pay, she said “Yes” am aware, I increased your salary and I thanked her.”

LaDiv Treasure Yankyaa: “When I saw more than my salary around December I cried(joy)and met my boss.i told him I saw more than and he replied🤗 I deserve more for my commitment and dedication to his company ahwnnn .since then na double double I dey receive oh.i thankGod for giving me such Boss.God bless him🙏🙏 To this post I give it 💯🥂🍾I concur 🤣🤣”

Abigail Boboye: “KAA To be honest, in a normal working environment, memos are supposed to be sent as regards changes on sensitive issues, whether it be Salaries, or any modification on your job description. These memos are important for proper filling of employee’s record by HR, as well as the employee himself keeping his own records straight. Note that these memos can either originate from the employee, or management.

As at when he noticed changes in his salary, right thing to do is to send a mail to notify management, since he works remotely, because it could have been system error, especially in organisations where Salaries are pre loaded in the system and just copy and paste on monthly basis. Not calling your attention to the difference he noticed was his fault, and not communicating officially to all employees about the increment was also a slack from your own end. Let things be done properly, because you can’t stop entitled individuals from existing.”

David Hussaini: “KAA but we have always been underpaid plus what org increases pay without proper communication?”
