Anambra government intervenes after once-beautiful ex-tennis champion Tanya Okpala was spotted begging for alms
The Anambra State government has announced that it would rehabilitate a former tennis champion Tanya Okpala after a Nigerian posted a video of her begging for alms on the street of Awka.
Tanya, a half-caste, with a gorgeous figure, represented Nigeria in the 1990s in the female tennis sports competition.
It came as a shock for fans and Nigerians in general to see her roaming the streets.
When interviewed, she rambled on about how she had been rejected by the society which leer at her for being a half-caste.
She had also resorted to begging for alms from people, saying she had only eaten four balls of puff-puff all day.
The governor of Anambra State Professor Charles Soludo said in a tweet:
“Tanya Okpala (Fmr Tennis champion) is now in the custody of the Anambra State Government. She was with the Commissioner of Women Affairs when my wife spoke with her on the phone. My government will ensure her rehabilitation and fruitful reunion with her daughter and family.”
