Three weeks after lamenting his inability to see a doctor, Canada-based Nigerian lawyer di£s
A popular Nigerian lawyer based in Canada, Ayokunle Odekunle, has di£d after a prolonged battle with gastric cancer.
The legal practitioner, who was popular for his views on socio-political issues online, passed away on Friday, December 29, in Alberta.
This comes three weeks after he took to X to lament his inability to see a doctor on time in Alberta.
Odekunle discovered he had stomach cancer that was spreading fast and leaving too little time to contain when he arrived in Edmonton in 2020.
It was gathered that the cancer was stage four when he passed on Friday evening.
On December 9, he tweeted: “Alberta Health Services should do better. I have been waiting at the Emergency to see a doctor for more than 3 hours now. The triage system should do better prioritizing cases.”
He later added that it was 7 hours of waiting without seeing a doctor.
He tweeted yet again that same day: “After about 8 hours. Thank you Jesus.”
Mr Odekunle studied law at the University of Ibadan, class of 2011, and was called to the Nigerian bar. Last summer, he was also called to the bar in Alberta, Canada, even though he had little time left to live.
He left behind his wife and two children, who live with him in Canada.
