Ukrainian councillor throws grenades in a meeting, 26 people injured
About 26 people were injured when a deputy village councillor in western Ukraine threw grenades onto the floor of a council meeting on Friday morning, December 15.
The attack took place at the village council headquarters in Keretsky in the western Zakarpattia region, BBC reports.
The meeting was being live-streamed on Facebook when the incident occurred.
Footage shows the man entering the room during a heated discussion about 90 minutes into the meeting. He then stands next to a door for around 30 seconds before tossing three grenades into the middle of the room.
“As a result, 26 people were wounded, six of whom are in grave condition,” police said in a statement, adding that medics were trying to resuscitate the man who threw the grenades.
A terror investigation has since been launched by the Ukrainian Secret Service (SBU).
The national police have also opened a probe into the illegal handling of weapons.
