A Ghanaian mechanic has warned Africans to beware of fraudulent schemes promising them well-paying jobs in Canada after he was duped of his life savings.

The mechanic took to social media to share his harrowing experience in his bid to relocate to Canada to join his friend who was showing off an expensive lifestyle after purportedly relocating to Canada.

In a video circulating online, the man claimed he sold two cars to raise funds for his trip after he saw a Facebook post of the said friend talking about how she could help others join her in Canada.

He claimed he paid the friend and an agent she introduced to him the sum of three thousand Canadian dollars, an equivalent of N1.7 million to help him process the travel.

The agent told him he had a link at the Canadian embassy who would ensure a favourable interview that would lead to his being given a visa to migrate to Canada.

The mechanic followed all the instructions he was given and ended up in Ivory Coast where he was denied the said visa.

At that point, he said his friend now showed up to him and confessed that she was actually living in Ivory Coast, apparently, after she had also been denied the same visa.

She then proposed to the mechanic to stay in Ivory Coast and join her in a business deal.

The mechanic declined and found his way back to his home country, Ghana.

“When I arrived there, my friend, who claimed to be in Canada, visited me after I went for the said interview in the Ivory Coast. She confessed that there was a business opportunity in the country and wanted me to join. At that point, I felt very sad and told my friend that her deceit had negatively affected me,” the mechanic said in part.

Expressing his deep sadness, he recounted the emotional toll of realizing that he had been swindled by someone he had considered a friend.

He said he decided to open up so that others would not fall for the same scam.
