Passengers who boarded a United Nigeria Airlines plane in Lagos for Abuja were shocked to find themselves in Asaba, Delta State on Sunday.
Former media aide to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu ‘Dawisu’ Tanko Yakasai, shared the story on X on Sunday, November 26.
He wrote: “Nigeria my country. We departed Lagos about an hour ago on @flyunitedng to Abuja, and upon arrival, the cabin crew confidently announced that we’ve arrived Abuja, only for us to realize that we landed in Asaba. Apparently, our pilot was given the wrong flight plan from Lagos.”
He attached a picture of the inside of the plane, with all the passengers seated and some filming the scene.
Providing an update later, he shared:
“Abuja at last!
I’m just imagining what it’d have looked like if this kind of error happened on an international journey. Like you got a ticket to Ghana and somehow find yourself in Cameroon or Sudan.”
United Nigeria Airlines has since responded to the incident.
Its Head of Communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, said the flight was diverted because of poor destination weather. However, when the flight landed in Asaba, a cabin crew member erroneously announced that the flight had landed in Abuja.
