Pastor who trended for anointing woman’s private parts narrowly escapes abduction in Zimbabwe
A Zimbabwe cleric, Prophet Obert Mapfumo, who trended in 2017 for anointing women’s privates as a way of solving their problems has narrowly escaped being kidnapped by a group of men who accused him of snatching another man’s wife.
His second-in-command, Propeht David Garutso, was abducted instead.
The incident happened on Saturday when the aggrieved men who could not find Mapfumo, descended on Garutso and bundled him into a car at the house he rented in Hatfield part of Harare, the country’s capital.
Garutso, a high-ranking member of By Grace Ministries, a church run by Prophet Obert Mapfumo, was summoned to his gate. There, he was approached by a man who accused Prophet Mapfumo of snatching a member’s wife.
David was asked to share the whereabouts of the self-proclaimed prophet. But when he could not, he was picked up.
Speaking with H-Metro on the incident, Garutso’s brother said David had been at a church meeting where Mapfumo’s affair with a married woman was discussed.
Apparently, David sided with his boss at the meeting. It is now believed that the aggrieved men targeted David because of his stance and support for his boss.
According to David’s brother, Garutso is second in line from Mapfumo and disagrees with other leaders’ requests to change the law.
David’s whereabouts are currently unknown and the police are on the case.
In 2017, Prophet Mapfumo trended for putting oil on married women’s privates, saying it was for prayer. Many people bashed the prophet on social media for leading his congregation astray and doing immoral things.
He was arrested at Star FM during an interview over the anointing oil issue.
Mapfumo was released from prison after appealing against his sentence and serving five months in jail.
