A young Nigerian man has filmed himself returning to Nigeria after experiencing difficulties abroad in what he called a “failed hustle.”
The young man, who goes by the TikTok moniker @ashuayanick, made the announcement on the popular social media platform.
Ashua Yanick had apparently ‘Japa-ed’ (local parlance for travelling out of the country to seek greener pastures) to a foreign country. He was however not lucky to make it over there and he decided to ‘Japada’ (return home).
The brief video clip shows @ashuayanick at a foreign airport, pushing a luggage cart full of his stuff. He flashed a victory sign at the camera as he pushed his stuff out of view.
His video caption reads: “Going back to dad’s house alive after a failed hustle is better than being back in a casket”.
Netizens received the video with mixed reactions. An overwhelming majority of the commenters commended the poster for his courage to decide to return, braving what people would say about his failed mission abroad.
Some who are in a similar situation vowed to return soon, while some said they would continue to hold on pending when the tide would turn in their favour in their adopted countries as they could not face the shame of returning empty-handed.
