The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has assured his congregation that it is not time for him to leave yet.

The assurance was a direct response to a comment by his son Leke Adeboye about what would happen to the church after his father would have departed.

Leke was the last of five young pastors who took to the podium to exhort the congregation at the International Youth Convention of the RCCG 2023 tagged ‘ Enlarge’, held at the Redemption City on Friday, October 6.

Leke caused a stir when he said he was afraid of the future of RCCG after his parents’ exit, especially considering the fact that the younger generation was not as committed as the generation his father belonged to.

He reeled off the astounding achievements of the church under the leadership of the old brigade led by his father, wondering if the coming generation would be able to sustain the momentum, much less exceed it.

Quoting Deuteronomy 34:9 where Moses laid hands on Joshua when he was about to retire, he invited his colleagues to step forward so that Pastor Adeboye could pray for them.

At this point he became quite emotional, pausing a few times to control his emotions.

He knelt on the altar as tears streamed down his cheeks, as his father directed a church leader to pray for him and his colleagues.

Taking to the podium later for his sermon, Pastor Adeboye took some time to address the comments of his son.

The revered cleric assured the congregation that they had nothing to worry about as he was not going anywhere soon.

He said, ‘I’m not going anywhere soon, you can rest assured’.

On the question of who succeeds him, he said the youth should wait and see the wonders of God.

“When my father in the Lord (Rev Josiah Akindayomi) was alive and whenever we had a successful programme, people would say what would become of RCCG after his exit, and he would say the one after me would be greater than I. You will be greater than me,” and the congregation chorused amen.
