Controversial artiste, Brymo has taken a swipe at his colleagues, Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, calling them thieves.
The singer who appeared on a TVC programme opines that the artistes are trying to carve out another genre of music from Afrobeat, founded by the late music legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Brymo said Fela laboured for years to establish the genre, adding that it was disrespectful that some young artistes would come along and think they could create another genre by adding ‘s’ to Afrobeat.
He said all Afrobeats can ever be is a style, not a genre.
“It’s funny, because I came across a video where he (Burna Boy) described himself as the Jesus of Afrobeats. And he named Davido, Wizkid and some other (indecipherable) like that. I think he’s sleazy, he’s cheap. Very unoriginal. He’s a thief. Very fake. Every song is a sample or a stolen slogan. I don’t know. Who does that? And who awards you Grammies for that?”, he said.
