‘How will this one be treated?’, Lab result of patient with ‘knotty’ infection stomps netizens
A lab report of a certain patient is trending on X (Twitter) after it was posted by a medical doctor.
The report shows that all known antibiotics have little or no effect on the strain of bacteria found in the system of the patient.
The report has resurrected a discussion on drug abuse and drug resistance as a looming menace that needs to be curbed immediately in the interest of society.
A Twitter user who identified himself as Dr. Ray posted the lab result today and it has been generating reactions since then.
The urine culture and sensitivity report apparently belongs to a patient with a urinary or sexually transmitted infection.
The report identified the organism afflicting the patient as ‘pseudomonas aeruginosa’.
The befuddling part of the report was that a total of 24 antibiotics were tested on the organism and it is resistant to them all.
On the thread, someone said a neighbour is in a similar situation after picking up a sexually transmitted disease that he had spent a lot of money treating. He claimed that no locally available antibiotic was successful in treating the infection.
He said the only drug that proved effective against the strain of organism was not available locally and would cost N1.5m for one shot and the man requires seven shots.
