Two church members drown while swimming in Ogun River

Two men have lost their lives after they went to swim in a river at Itori, Ogun State.

The victims and five others had come from Lagos to attend an inauguration event at Cherubim and Seraphim Church Onikoko in Itori held on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

The incident happened on Monday, August 28, when the victims ventured into the waters for a swim, unaware of the lurking dangers.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said a member of the church, Adebayo Adeosun, reported the incident to the police at approximately 6:30 pm on Monday.

Adeosun said that the boys numbering seven who came from Lagos on the 27th of August for the church inauguration, left the church premises to swim, and got drowned in the process.

The PPRO identified the two victims as Femi Akinola, aged 32, from Odo Eran Itire in Lagos State, and Tunde Falade, aged 35, from Kola Alagbado, also in Lagos.
