A man has been severely beaten by his compatriots after he was accused of dating a fellow man.
It is unclear how the mob knew the man was gay as there was no partner with him at the time of the incident.
He was accosted as he made his way home and accused of coming from his male lover’s house. He was attacked and his clothes were shredded.
He was wounded in the encounter and his bag was searched. A pair of blue jeans was brought out by one of the men who accosted him. But after some explanation in their local language, they returned the jeans to the bag and handed it back to him.
There is a strong negative sentiment against the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.
Many netizens have condemned the beating, with many pointing out that there was no evidence that the young man was gay or was coming back from a male lover’s place.
Some called for the arrest of the men who assaulted the teacher.
