An attempt by a Nollywood actress, Christabel Egbenya to ridicule her housemaid who oversleeps has backfired as netizens criticized her for degrading her domestic staff.
Egbenya had shared a video of her entering the maid’s room at 9 a.m. and splashing water on her to wake her up.
She complained in the video that the maid, identified as Ifeoma was found of waking up late every day.
She complained that she had herself well covered and left her baby lying beside her uncovered.
She shared the video on TikTok, but rather than being applauded, many netizens criticized her for giving the girl a degrading treatment.
Some noted that she would not do the same if the maid was her own daughter or blood sister, while some noted that the maid might have been overworked the previous day, or had to stay up late for the baby to sleep.
When the actress saw that most of the comments were not in her favour, she disabled the comment section.
The following day, she went into the room of the maid to record herself waking the maid up at 10 a.m.
She complained that some people criticized her the previous day because of her video but failed to see the problem she was dealing with.
Christabel queried the maid why she was still in bed at 10 a.m. Ifeoma responded that she took part in an overnight online prayer.
Her boss said it she had to choose whether she wanted to work with her or be going for prayer.
